What is the main train station in Krakow called? Where is it?

Navigating Europe’s many large tourist cities can be confusing. Cities such as Budapest, Prague or Milan have at least a few large railway stations, and in order not to get lost you need to know which is the main railway station in the city. Krakow, located in the south of Poland, is one of the most visited cities in Poland. What is the main railway station in Krakow? Which railway station do you have to come to in Krakow? What is Krakow Glowny?

Krakow’s main railway station

Compared to huge tourist metropolises like Milan, Rome, Paris or even Budapest, Krakow is a modest and small town. However, Krakow has two railway stations and many train stops. What is the main railway station in Krakow?

The main railway station in Krakow is called “Krakow Glowny”. It is a railway station located almost in the very centre of the city. It takes only a few minutes on foot to get to Krakow’s biggest attraction, the Market Square, from the Krakow Glowny station.

There are also airport trains connecting Krakow’s main and only airport, Krakow Airport, with the city centre, Krakow Central Station (Kraków Główny).

Historic Krakow railway station building

Krakow’s railway station bears little resemblance to large European stations such as Budapest Keleti or Milano Centrale. The historic Krakow railway station building has been closed down for years and there is no impressive historic platform hall in Krakow.

Trains to Krakow’s main train station enter the tracks above ground. From each of the platforms of Krakow’s main railway station you can access the car park above. The station itself as waiting rooms and ticket offices are located in Krakow’s underground.

You can also use the tunnel to get either to the shopping mall connected to the station, called Galeria Krakowska, or in the other direction you can walk to the bus station.

It is to the Krakow Glowny station that trains arrive from the airport, as well as from Gdynia and Warsaw or Wrocław and Katowice. There is also the Krakow Płaszów railway station, but it is not located in the city centre and its importance is marginal.
