What is the main airport in Krakow? Which airport to choose?

Many cities in Europe are served by more than one airport. Often there are several airports in the vicinity of a city. What is it like for Krakow in Poland? What is Krakow’s main airport? Which airport to fly to when going to Krakow or Zakopane in Poland? Where to land? We give you a hint which airport is in Krakow.

Main airport in Krakow

London, Paris or Milan are major European tourist destinations served by several airports located in the region. Situated in the south of Poland, Krakow is one of the most visited cities in the country but generally speaking it is a small city with one small airport.

What is Krakow’s main airport? If you are travelling to Krakow, the only airport you should choose is Krakow Airport, located just outside Krakow in the town of Balice. Getting from Krakow Airport to the centre of Krakow costs around PLN 45 by Uber or Bolt, and the centre of Krakow is only a few kilometres from the airport, dont pay PLN 100+ for a transfer, its not worth it. It takes about 17 minutes to get from Krakow Airport to the railway station in the centre of Krakow by direct train.

In relative proximity to Krakow is the Pyrzowice airport located in the small town of Pyrzowice near the city of Katowice. Pyrzowice Airport (KTW) is not the airport of choice when flying to Krakow. It is a small airport from which it is difficult to get to Krakow and is located approximately 105 kilometres from Krakow and can be reached in over an hour by car and even longer by public transport.

The situation is similar at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport RZE. It, too, is located very far from Krakow, 166 kilometres from the city centre, and the journey by car takes more than 1h 30 minutes.

Which airport should I choose when flying to Krakow?

Krakow Airport in January

Compared to large European cities, Krakow is a small city that is served by a single airport located a few kilometres from the centre.

When flying to Krakow, choose Krakow Balice Airport (KRK). Katowice Airport and Rzeszów Airport are airports further away. So is Chopin Airport, which is located in Warsaw. Ostrava Airport in the Czech Republic is also unsuitable for flights to Krakow.

Near Krakow, there is a small aeroclub airport in Pobiednik. It does not serve passenger flights and only has a grass runway therefore, it is not possible to fly to Pobiednik on a scheduled flight or even a private jet.
